DDGS

Distillers Dried Grains with Solubles (DDGS) is a byproduct obtained following the fermentation of grain (corn, wheat, barley, rye) starch by means of yeasts and enzymes to produce biofuel (ethanol) and CO2. DDGS has been produced predominantly in the US from corn by 90% since 1980’s.

It is also manufactured from sorghum, wheat, barley, rye, and similar cereals besides corns depending on the region, availability, and price. Currently, 40% of byproducts is sold to animal husbandry establishments and diaries located nearby the ethanol plants without being dried. The remaining part of 60% is marketed after having been dried.
